New report urges the Government to seek closer alignment with Europe as part of calls for a "pro-growth" relationship with the EU.
The report by the Resolution Foundation, published this morning, suggests that regulatory divergence from the EU accounts for almost half of the long-term economic damage from Brexit and that closer alignment with the EU could deliver significant economic benefits particularly in high-value manufacturing.
Among a number of other practical fixes to the Brexit day, Best for Britain is campaigning for beneficial alignment with the EU on regulations and standards to unblock trade, get the economy growing, and ensure the UK’s high standards are upheld.
Tom Brufatto, Director of Policy at Best for Britain said,
“It’s clear that regulatory alignment where beneficial with our European neighbours is the quickest way to cut red tape, reduce consumer costs for struggling families and deliver growth across Britain.
“The UK Government and EU Commission have a unique opportunity to build upon their strong start last week and work towards making this a reality.”
