EU-UK alignment ‘common sense’ as OECD downgrades UK growth

Campaigners are calling for the UK to align more closely with the EU as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) cites US tariffs for global economic slowdown.

In an update to its forecast for the world economy, the international intergovernmental organization downgraded scope for global growth over the next two years and cut its forecast for UK growth by 0.3 percentage points this year and by 0.1 percentage points for 2026.

The OECD pointed to Donald Trump's trade policies as a key factor in their revision.

Tom Brufatto, Director of Policy and Research at Best for Britain said,

“As expected, the new US administration is causing significant damage to economies around the world, including the UK where the resulting hit to public finances will be felt by millions.

“In such challenging global economic conditions, it is common sense for the UK to align more closely with our largest market and more reliable partners in the EU which independent research shows can boost the UK economy by up to 2.2%, benefiting ordinary people across Britain.”
