Responding to the news that the Green Party has won the seat of Gorton and Denton, Naomi Smith, Chief Executive of Best for Britain, said:
“When a party loses the trust of thousands of its own voters in its heartlands, that’s not an aberration but a stark warning.
“Just as in Caerphilly last year, tonight’s result proves voters are willing to break the mould when they don’t feel heard. Their message was clear: loyalty can no longer be assumed. It has to be earned.
“It’s high time Labour stopped courting right wing voters who are never going to back them, and focus on delivering for the progressive majority.
“The Greens have broken through not because the system helped them, but despite it working against them at every turn. But one breakthrough doesn’t fix a system that sidelines millions of votes elsewhere. With our politics fragmenting, the electoral system must adapt to ensure Parliament reflects how people actually vote. That’s the democratic renewal this moment demands and it’s one this Government should deliver.”
