Hate Still Has No Home Here - One Year on from the Riots

1 year ago this week, following the horrific murder of 3 young girls in Southport, misinformation rapidly spread online sparking a wave of violence and chaos.

Between 30 July and 7 August 2024, an estimated 29 anti-immigrant demonstrations and violent riots took place across 27 towns and cities in the UK.

Protestors clashed with the police, set fire to asylum hotels, vandalised Muslim graves. A cab carrying Filipino nurses was attacked. Ethnic Minorities lived in genuine fear for their safety.

Time has passed but the impact remains.  Research has found that the violent disorder had a “devastating” long-term impact on the mental and physical health of affected communities - especially, on Muslim girls and women.

But last year's riots were not a one off or isolated incident.  They were the result of years of rhetoric by right-wing politicians and media, blaming immigrants for the challenges this country faces.

And these same politicians, newspapers and broadcasters are still at it. They have ramped up their rhetoric & even now they are claiming we are "on the brink" of yet more violence and unrest - giving cover to those who are just looking for an excuse.

But there is Hope.

At Best for Britain - we believe its important to remember the riots, to learn the lessons, but we also believe its even more important to remember the response to the riots.

After the initial violence caught everyone by surprise, communities came together to clean up the mess, and counter protestors organised on a scale which the right-wing simply couldn't match - shutting down the next wave of riots. We documented some of the best examples from last year in this thread.

With the threat of more riots  - if you want to join us in taking a stand you can download and print-at-home your own "Hate has no home here" window poster below.   If you don't have a printer or want a higher quality print you can order one from our shop instead, and we have also created graphics for you to share on your own channels - suitable for your stories or posts.

The right-wing can only "win" when the majority stay silent.  Let's remind them what the people of Britain really believe.
