"Brexit poses an immediate risk to the provision of safe and effective care for patients in the UK"
Those are the words of the Royal College of Nursing, which represents more than 435,000 nurses, midwives and healthcare workers.
Brexit will harm the NHS in a number of ways; from staff shortages, to funding challenges. If the deal is sufficiently bad, or worse still if there's no deal at all, patients could be forced to wait for life-saving medicines and they could miss out on vital clinical trials. Access to medical expertise on the continent is almost certain to go in such a scenario.
The medical profession is unanimous. Brexit will do deep, perhaps irreversible harm to the NHS. 83% of doctors say it will be catastrophic, while the ABPI (Britain's largest pharmaceutical body) warns it could put lives at risk. All three major health unions have come out against it.
