Starmer calls on Europe to reduce reliance on US at Munich Security Conference

Campaigners have welcomed the Prime Minister's speech on European security at the Munich Security Conference.

Prime Minister Starmer said "We are not the Britain of the Brexit years anymore. And that’s why I’m here today. Because I am clear, there is no British security without Europe, and no European security without Britain. That is the lesson of history, and is today’s reality as well."

Responding to Prime Minister Starmer’s speech to the Munich Security Conference Naomi Smith, CEO of Best for Britain, said:

“This is the speech many have been waiting for Starmer to make. With Trump in the White House it will be a comfort to Brits and Europeans to hear a UK Prime Minister advocate for less reliance on the United States. Our polling and analysis consistently shows that voters understand that a strong relationship with Europe offers greater security for Britain.

“Yes, Europe must wake up and address weaknesses - particularly on defence, but it does that by remembering, and having confidence in, its collective strength.”
