Trump’s undermining of United Nations is gift to Putin

Campaigners have warned US President Donald Trump's undermining of the United Nations (UN) is a "gift" to Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Addressing the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, President Trump criticised the international organisation, claimed climate change was a "con job" and that Europe was being "invaded by illegal aliens", as well as attacking London mayor and Labour politician Sadiq Khan.

Naomi Smith, chief executive of Best for Britain, said:

“Today, President Trump once again attacked the foundations of the rules-based international order - the fundamental framework that keeps peace, protects smaller nations, and enables global cooperation on the world’s toughest challenges.

"By undermining the UN, he makes the world more dangerous and unpredictable. Putin couldn’t ask for a better gift. World leaders must reject Trump's reckless attempt to rewrite the rules."
