The government’s levelling up agenda is nothing more than empty words

Now that we have left the EU, British communities are facing challenges which belie the government’s promises of levelling up. The EU’s £1.8 billion Cohesion fund is no longer available to Britain’s poorest regions; farmers face the frightening prospect of trade deals which might undercut their standards and costs; small businesses are experiencing unprecedented challenges with exports and tariffs.

These conditions conspire to undermine the prosperity of Britain’s communities and exaggerate the gaps between the haves and have-nots. We need to hold the Government to account and ensure it replaces lost EU funding and commits to helping small businesses. We need the Government to put people before profit and commit to protecting and strengthening existing rights and standards.
