The UK is one of the richest countries in the world, but 1 in 5 people are now living in poverty in this country including almost a third of all children.
The number of people relying on foodbanks has increased from 40,000 in 2010 to over 2million today and in one out of every seven households, adults regularly skip meals
This year, energy and food prices have increased more in the UK than in any other G7 nation.
12 years of Conservative Government has drastically increased the number of people in poverty and the number of people going hungry. At a time when the cost of living is spiralling out of control, they have increased taxes on working people and pushed through tax cuts for bankers. By mismanaging our economy and introducing new trade barriers, they have increased costs for struggling people even further.
If the Conservatives remain in power, they will push more people into poverty.
Ceri can’t wait. Something must change.
Our outdated voting system keeps the Tories in power with a minority of votes. If the share of seats matched the share of votes they received, the Conservatives would have only won 2 of the last 21 elections. Even Margaret Thatcher would have failed to secure a majority.
The Conservative Party knows that they can’t win under a better system. That’s why this year they rolled back fairer voting for local elections in England.
A better voting system means Labour is likely to be in government more often and in a position to help people like Ceri. 80% of Labour members back a fairer voting system as does Britain’s largest trade union. We need you to tell Keir Starmer that you expect him to back a fairer voting system too.
Write to Keir Starmer asking him to support making Proportional Representation party policy at this year's Labour Party Conference.
