Sunak belatedly releases tax returns after cuts for top 1%

Today, Rishi Sunak released his tax returns after having pledged to do so by Christmas.

The release of these tax returns comes after years of scrutiny around Sunak's personal finances, including his wife's claim of non-domiciled status in the UK. Sunak himself held a US green card, generally held by permanent residents, until 2021, when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Responding to the release of the Prime Minister’s tax returns, Naomi Smith, Chief Executive of internationalist campaign group Best for Britain said,

“The belated release of Sunak’s tax returns after his budget of handouts for the wealthy further emphasises that for Rishi and his rich mates, paying your fair share is just an unwelcome burden.

“The British public deserve a Prime Minister who understands the pressures facing households and works to bring the best economic outcomes for all, not one who jumps to cut tax for the 1%–himself chief among them–at every turn.”
