Read Best for Britain's report: Frameworks for future trade deals
The Board of Trade is a governmental body which offers advice to the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and wider government on its trade and exporting strategy. We think the UK Board of Trade should be fully independent, acting as the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) does for the Treasury, providing the following:
- Impartial assessments of the UK's trading performance;
- Scrutiny on the value and cost of trade deals;
- Advice to the government on strategy.
