Brexit benefits: New border force fleet six times over budget

Post-Brexit rules, made worse by a blunder by Liz Truss, means that Britain's new border force fleet will be delayed and cost six times its original budget.

It was revealed this morning that Britain's border security is being compromised due to an error in the negotiation of post-Brexit trade rules, made on Liz Truss's watch as Trade Secretary at the time.

The error has delayed the replacement of the UK's Border Force fleet, used to monitor Britain's coastline and pick up migrants in the Channel, until 2030 at the earliest and will likely send costs soaring to £300 million. This is six times the original budget.

Naomi Smith, Chief Executive of Best for Britain said,

“It’s difficult to imagine a more perfect example of how Brexit, compounded by incompetence at the highest levels of the last government, has driven up costs and left us less safe.

“The new government must act urgently to undo this damage and remove the barriers to trade Brexit has created with our closest neighbours.”
