Brexit likely cost lives during the pandemic

A damning new report from the UK Covid-19 Inquiry has found that the last Government's prioritising Brexit led to inaction during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Among numerous references to the Government's preparations for a no-deal Brexit, the inquiry found that ‘a number of workstreams for pandemic preparedness were paused due to a reallocation of resources to Operation Yellowhammer’

Best for Britain was Secretariat for the All Party Parliamentary Group on Coronavirus from 2021-23.

It's former chair, Layla Moran MP said,

“Working together with Best for Britain, our APPG  spoke to countless expert witnesses in the interests of improving government action during the pandemic, but we consistently heard that preparations for a no-deal Brexit meant the last government was less focussed and less prepared for this crisis that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives in the UK.

“It is now beyond doubt that both Government policy and misplaced priorities resulted in many more preventable deaths and underlines the urgency of the new government undoing the shameful legacy of their 14 years in power.“
