Vance's views about Britain are "Dangerous, ignorant and abhorrent in equal measure"

Campaigners have underlined the urgency of the UK reestablishing closer links with the EU following confirmation that JD Vance will be Donald Trump's running mate in this year's US Presidential election.

JD Vance has drawn criticism for his previous remarks where he suggested the UK would the first “truly Islamist country that will get a nuclear weapon” following Labour's election victory.

Trump's return to the White House is now considered more likely after he survived an assassination attempt and following a torrid few weeks for President Biden.

There are fears that if Trump and Vance win the election in November, they will withdraw US support for Ukraine and undermine the NATO alliance.

Naomi Smith, Chief Executive of Best for Britain said,

"Vance's opinions about the UK are dangerous, ignorant and abhorrent in equal measure and a clear signal to our new government that Britain must urgently rebuild and deepen ties with our European allies rather than hoping everything will turn out ok in the US."
