At a summit meeting of the 75th anniversary of the alliance the US President endorsed the UK building stronger ties with the EU.
During a bilateral meeting between Joe Biden and Keir Starmer, the US President said, “I kind of see you guys as the knot tying the transatlantic alliance together, the closer you are with Europe, the more you’re engaged,”
Downing Street welcomed the comments and reaffirmed their commitment to “establishing closer relationships with our European counterparts.”
Naomi Smith, CEO of Best for Britain said,
“Reading between the headlines, Britain can be encouraged by the tone of the NATO summit and the enthusiasm with which Keir Starmer was welcomed.
“His monumental gaffes notwithstanding, Biden’s characterisation of the UK as the knot between the US and Europe neatly summarises the important role Britain must play in the coming decades in unifying democratic nations in defence of human rights and in opposition to populism and authoritarianism.
“Our new Prime Minister must capitalise on this and deliver on his promise to deepen UK-EU ties, starting by fixing the current Brexit Deal.”
