Paris Olympics 2024: “global cooperation at its best”

The 2024 Olympics came to a close on Sunday evening after two weeks of captivating competition.

Since their inception in 1896, the modern Olympic Games have been a unifying force for the nations of the world.

This year the Games took place in Paris, where team GB won a total of 65 medals, beating their tally from Tokyo 2020 by one and putting Great Britain seventh in the final rankings. The Paralympic Games will follow shortly, due to start in just over two weeks on 28 August.

The next Olympic Games will take place in 2028 in Los Angeles.

Naomi Smith, CEO of Best for Britain,

“Team GB have made us very proud over the past two weeks and their record overall medal haul is a fantastic achievement. We have no doubt the GB paralympic team will do the same.

“But the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, of global cooperation and mutual respect, is something that all nations should strive to achieve, not just in sport and not just every four years. We must take these lessons forward and work with our international partners to meet the great challenges we face together.”
