"Planets align" as EU body advises EU-UK Youth Mobility Scheme & UK Erasmus participation

Today an official EU advisory body called for an EU-UK Youth Mobility Scheme and the reintegration of the UK into the Erasmus+ programme.

This morning the EU's Economic and Social Committee voted in favour of an opinion paper which urges the EU Commission to negotiate an ‘ambitious reciprocal youth mobility partnership’ and for ‘the full reintegration of the UK into Erasmus+’.

Best for Britain has campaigned for both policies since they were recommended by the UK Trade and Business Commission in May 2023 as two of 114 proposals to foster growth and improve trading conditions for British businesses.

Naomi Smith, Chief Executive of Best for Britain said,

“The Government’s awful Brexit deal cruelly robbed young Brits of irreplaceable formative experiences and created significant issues particularly for UK universities and hospitality businesses.

“The planets are now aligning for some of this damage to be reversed and with the EU now backing the plan, it’s time the UK Government signed up to a reciprocal EU-UK Youth Mobility Scheme and allowed British students back into Erasmus.”
