'Significant disruption' when Brexit transition ends, watchdog warns

UK trade with the EU faces "significant disruption" when the Brexit transition period ends in January, the National Audit Office has said.

Commenting, Best for Britain CEO Naomi Smith said:

“The government has spent too much time evading responsibility for the lack of UK preparedness for the end of transition, while failing to give businesses the information and time they need to adjust their operations.

“Now the UK faces catastrophe on January 1, with traders needing to complete mountains of new paperwork and critical IT systems still not up and running.

“With businesses already facing a nightmare before Christmas, the government must do all it can to support their survival. That begins with signing a UK-EU trade deal to prevent tariffs being added to the burden of new red tape.”
